Stress is endemic to the workplace
It is unlikely that stress will ever leave the workplace. Even under normal circumstances, the workplace is an inherently stressful environment. This can be due to:

• Deadlines (real or self imposed)
• Presentations
• Need for perfection
• Disagreements with colleagues
• Difficulties with bosses
• Difficulties with staff
• Changes to working practice
• Threat of unemployment

The Shulman Report - (1996) has shown why massage is now emerging as one of the most successful favourites in this battle against stress in the workplace.

Stress can have detrimental effects on an organisation in the following ways:

• Increased complaints from clients and reduced
    customer service
• Staff being less committed to an employer
• Accidents occurring at a higher rate
• Staff turnover rates increasing
• Absenteeism increasing due to stress related illness
